1st. Someone said something about Ferrari being owned by FIAT (they also own Alfa Romeo, Lancia & Maserati) - fyi - Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagon, who also owns Audi, Bugatti, & Bentley and more - Is that any better? Who really cares? Most of the exotic/high end marques are owned by the more mundane companies - Ford owns Aston Martin, Jag, Land Rover, etc., BWM owns Roll Royce, etc.
2nd and more to the point of the orginal question - the choice really depends on so many things and alot of it comes down to personal taste as performance, price & quality-wise they are very comparable.
Ferrari's tend to be a bit more subtle whereas Lambo's are more outlandish. The Ferrari's do tend to be a more user friendly and easier to drive on a day-to-day basis but the newer Lambos have improved vastly from the days of the Countach when you'd have to sit on the door sill to back the thing up.
This is all based on the current offerings from each company but if you're talking vintage cars then generally I'd go with Ferrari but there are a few older Lambos' that I love such as the Muira. Ferrari has obviously been around longer, has a vastly superior racing history/pedigree and has always offered more models to choose from. One of my all-time favorite cars is the '64 Ferrari 250 GTO and not just because it's currently worth about $7-8 million. It's the shape and style of the car, the sound of the engine etc. there are only about 30 of them still in existence today, not that there were ever many more than that to begin with.

Well I would go with Ferrari because I have 6 Ferraris and 2 Lamborghinis in my car collection.(Ferrari: Enzo,F50,F40,F430,575M Marenello, and 456M GT. And for Lamborghini I have a Murcielago and a Gallardo(Momo edition)).Ferrari is way faster than Lamborghini.

Ferrari.
Greater race and car building heritage, more models to choose from. More than just raw power, they have real finesse and quality that seems to be lacking in the Lamborghinis' which are just raw testosterone, almost like an Italian muscle car.
Ferrari was the inspiration for Lamborghini sports cars anyway, they began by making tractors!

Ferrari because it's more user friendly and is better suited for everyday usage compared with the Lamborghini.

How do you want to define "best?" Porsche: Most successful race history of any sports car maker. They own 31% of VW (which owns Lamborgini - and not the other way around, VW does not and never has owned Porsche in whole or part) and produce more cars than any of the other companies mentioned here. They have always produced high performance, high technology cars that are as usable on the race track as they are under daily commute conditions. Also, the only independent company of the four. Ferrari: Long and storied history and the most successful team in Formula 1 (with alot of success in other forms of racing over the years as well). Their race experience has always led to cutting edge technology in their designs... which have almost always been works of art unto themselves. The company is no longer independent and is owned by Fiat, but as a division, all aspects of Ferrari are very profitable and they sell all cars they can make. They also currently own the rights tot he Maserati name. Lamborghini: The company has changed hands quite often, and is currently owned by VW. While they have always had stunning designs and great numbers on paper, their origins as a maker of farming equipment is usally all too visible in their chasis design/quality (though much improved since VW ownership). And despite a number of tries, they've never achieved even marginal success in racing. Maserati: You almost have to consider this one only in a historical perspective. The current Maserati offerings are simply Ferrari's with lots of extra weight. It would be hard to put forth any compelling argument for Maserati as a great name anytime after the 1960s. There and earlier, a great Marque that often outshone the much larger Italian competition. Now just a name from the past that Ferrari has managed to use to market luxury cars. So, unless you wish to consider design asthetic, or luxury features as "best," you are really talking about Porsche or Ferrari. The current Lamborghini offerings deserve at least a mention if you are referring performance areas as "best," but they are a still and easy third behind Porsche and Ferrari in any area other than straight line performance. So Porsche or Ferrari? Porsche has the edge in total race history, company success, engineering (with so much engineering done for other car companies over the years), and general function and usability of their product. Ferrari enjoy the edge in current/recent racing success at the highest levels and sheer sexieness of their product (albeit at the cost of overall usability). I tend to favor Porsche, though mood could easily leave me all to ready to say Ferrari.
