It happens for alot of reasons. Some people are points ho's in the sense they'll 'answer' a question just to get the 2 points. Others do it, because they are attention seekers and like to any attention, even if it is negativer. Others do it, because they genuinely think they know the answer and don't have the sense to know they're wrong!

I've only recently returned to Answers (after a long break) because of all the silly questions and answers.
Blame it on people who either: desire attention; are desperate for points; are trolls who only answer in order to be controversial; are genuinely thick or lack the life experience to formulate a proper answer;...
There are any number of reasons why they do it. As an opinionated, Font of all Knowledge - I understand your frustration :)

I concur with you wholeheartedly. I am seriously considering giving this site a body swerve. It has nothing but empty headed illiterate thugs and bigots, attempting, mostly unsuccessfully, to write something approaching basic English.
The phrase, "an empty vessel makes the most noise" comes to mind.
