Not this year. Not unless they come up with some pitching. On top of so so pitching the cubs have some pretty horrible defense which combined with weak pitching, weak bats and poor defense makes a .500 record problematic for the Cubs this year.

On the plus side Soriano will boost the offense and DeRosa almost as much since DeRosa is a good determined hitter. His numbers are not flashy but he gets the job done. Problem was this was the biggest bright spot for the Cubs last year with Theriot having a pretty good partial season. Perhaps Theriot can play CF.

Derek Lee gets to prove what a fluke 05 was or hide on the DL again. That leaves a gaping hole at 1b again this year. Nobody is listed in CF in the depth chart yet. Jones was over the hill last year, this year more so.

Zambrino locks down the top rotation spot. After that it's at best a big question mark. Miller was a good pitcher at one time and young enough to bounce back but did the injuries end his career? This year will say alot about whether Miller is done or just relearning how to pitch. Either way don't expect a great year out of him. Rich Hill and Sean Marshell are promising youngsters but have yet to have any success. Prior is a career DL specialist. Lilly is a #4 or #5 kind of innings eater who is likely to be the #2 starter on the Cubs staff. Marquis's declining numbers combined with Wrigley field to me spell a long reliever in the making. Kerry Wood might get a start or two before going back on the dl.

Dempster is the kind of guy you have closing when you know you have no chance at post season but don't want to shell shock a young starting staff with massive relief losses.

Things are not looking so bright for Cubs fans this year. Especially against the Astros and Cardinals who both were major underperformers last year and likely to be much better this year.

Not yet my friend. They have very good individuals, but they still need to mature together as a team. I think they'll have a very good year, but the next one they gonna be prepared to win the whole thing. Remember that in AL they are a lot of experienced teams that are not easy to pass, eg. Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers. They are really strong and experienced teams. Let me tell you that I like the Cubs since 10 years ago, when Sammy was playing for them, and I'd like to see 'em win the World Series, but that's my analysis, and I'm almost pretty sure they will win in a couple of years, but I don't think this is the year of the Cubs.

My grandfather used to inform me that as right now because the Cubs win the global sequence the only excellent giggle would nicely be on you damn Cardinal followers; that replaced into in 1958. Do you imagine of the Cubs will ever get the only excellent giggle?

They will definitely be improved, but to expect them to go from being as bad as they were last year to World Series champs is expecting too much, especially with the Cubs history.

Of course they will. All Cubs fans are loyal and all Cubs fans believe, of course we'll win it all. With a new manager, Soriano, more pitching, D-Lee will be back...i think they will do it.

I HOPE SO!!!! Me and my dad and my grandpa and thousands and thousands of Cubbie faithfuls hope so. We've improved. We've stocked up with Soriano. Mix him in with A-Ram, Lee, Barrett, and Jones, and you got a solid lineup. Rotation is a big question mark. We hope Prior and Wood are healthy but we're not depending on them. Big Z, Lilly, Marquis, Hill, and Miller would be the rotation if neither is healthy.....not great but solid. If Wood is healthy we got ourselves a great closer and if Prior is healthy, we got a great rotation. We got a shot.

GO CUBS!!!!!!

I don't think they're quite ready yet. Yeah, they're going to be better with Soriano and all, but they're gonna have to wait maybe a couple years to let their team mature and maybe get some more free agents next offseason. So my answer is: yes, they'll be a lot better, but no, they won't have quite enough firepower to win the whole thing.

Forgive me while I laugh. The Cubs will never win it all - never!!! If they won it all, people would stop liking them and you wouldn't want that to happen would you? Now, they're lovable losers.
