It's an old white IBM webcam. I plugged it in to my computer, and my computer attempted to install the hardware. However, it says that the computer lacks the software/driver suited for a webcam. How do I fix this, or where do I download such a thing?

My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP. The webcam is the one that is an old IBM camera.

It depends on the platform of your old computer.
And I'm also assuming this is a newer or current cam.
It would be obvious that what you experienced would happen. The older computer could not possibly have a compatible driver for the cam, since the cam was made after the computer.
However, if your cam was made for XP and your computer is on the old '98 platform, there's a very good chance it wont' work. The reason for this is twofold.
First, the XP driver for the cam won't work (very well) on the '98 system. Second, the cam is made to work on a range of processors, and '98 is also made to work with a range of processors, the problem is that the '98 processors are too slow, or not powerful enough to run the cam.
That is, if your system is running '98 or 2000
If your system is running ME, then you should be able to go to the cam manufacturer's website and download the appropriate driver.
Once you have that installed, your cam should work fine.

If you know the model of the web cam, you can go to the IBM website and technical support and look for downloads of drivers by model name or number. Download and install the driver for your operating system.

These are a couple of sites you might look for the driver since you did not give the model number.
www.driver32.com/brand.asp?id=4227
www.soft32.com/s/3-379-52-1.html
driverfiles.net/Other/IBM/

Try going to the manufacturs website, they might have the software driver.
Or go to:
http://www.camerahacker.com/WebCam/IBM_PC_Camera.shtml, it has some very useful things to say about it.

you are able to acquire the equipment on your webcam from imaginative's information superhighway website. enter the type type of your digicam into the quest field close to the right-proper of the web page; it might have documentation and application on your kit.
