Why do some men insist on hogging answers with completely ridiculous, superfluous, mundane, boring thoughts. I would think that the next thing will be posting what they had for breakfast or perhaps speculating on how women feel in cold weather. You would think that people like this with very little imagination could find something more to occupy their time like memorizing a bus schedule. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't know why I do this... perhaps it is the little person in the cart that might grab things off the shelf... but then again I am pretty sure that it is just a mindless thing... I intend only to quickly grab that box of cereal and then quickly be on my way... but then my big bum waddle prevents me from moving at high speeds so I block traffic for a time.... I am so sorry... I will try to avoid the middle isle, however it is such a subconscious thing I can not say I will never to it again.... Perhaps the carts should be equipped with horns..... :D

I am always apologising for bumping into people ( i have even been known to apologise to inanimate objects !! ). It was the way i was brought up. That said i think that these women were probably being a bit OTT, don't let them worry you. It is them with the problem not you !! I am in Scotland btw and it is not something that i have noticed happening. If i am ever in Florida i promise i won't call you ma'am or grovel, you will just get a plain old Sorry :-) Edit- it means " over the top "

I love a man that does the grocery shopping!!
yes, women do hog the center isles and it can be troublesome
my theory is this- from experience, the case of the kid in the cart grabbing all the stuff off the shelves.
and, the fact that the grocery store is a woman's domain and she thinks she owns a piece of it and I do think that they hog the isles subconsciously but I agree - it's rude.
btw, my husband likes to do the grocery shopping too.

I'm female and I've wondered that too. I suppose it has to do with a vision problem and they want to stand back away from the shelves they are looking at to get a better view and to comparison shop (compare several brand names and prices). Some also like to read the labels and need to stand back away from the shelves for comfort. I suspect though when they shop their mind is on what they want to purchase and it's a "me" type thing and they don't even stop to consider there's anyone else around. When I shop I go at times when few people are there, and then if anyone is in that aisle I don't go down that aisle.

Ahhh the mystery that is woman! I don't know how to answer you but I do have a thought myself. One day while sitting in the commons at my college I watched people going up a large stair case. All the men, without exception went up the right hand side of the stairway. About half of the women went up the left side of the stair way with some even forcing others comming down out of the way by her presence there. Mystery abounds.

Am Woman. I too think it is just plain rude. I see guys, the few that there are shopping, do this. The same people block hallways and aisles when talking to someone. I have started beeping like a car horn to get by.
These people, like 80% of the population in my estimation, just do not make themselves aware of their surroundings enough. They will move over if asked but then just move back. Even if it is the only route for traffic. It is very baffling.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, and I had a scream out with some b*tch in the store who saw me coming out of the corner of her eye, yet was refusing to move her cart. She only decided to move it once a few other people were behind me also trying to get through. Well I was right in the middle of rolling my eyes, when she finally decided to "see" us all. So she says "oh oh sorry". Then as I am passing through, she says to me, "I didnt need the look", and I said "OH YES YOU DID BECAUSE YOU WERE NOT GOING TO MOVE YOUR CART". Then she tried to act like I was nuts and said in a sarcastic way, "yeah ok whatever", and I decided to act juvenile and I replied with a very loud voice, "RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE", until her face turned red and she scurried away. Its always women who I catch doing this crap in the stores, and I can only say that the reason is they feel a sense of self importance, and feel like their needs are more important than anyone elses.

I find it is people in general that think they are the only ones in the store or the only ones of importance. The fact that most of the shoppers are women make it appear that only women do this but the fact is, most all, men and women, do, in my opinion.
Also, Americans can neither read or add. For proof, check out those in line in the "20 or less" aisle.
