Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although you won't be able to feel them that early. You probably won't start to notice them until sometime after midpregnancy, if you notice them at all (some women don't). They get their name from John Braxton Hicks, an English doctor who first described them in 1872.

As your pregnancy progresses, Braxton Hicks contractions tend to come somewhat more often, but until you get to your last few weeks, they should remain infrequent, irregular, and essentially painless. Sometimes, though, Braxton Hicks are hard to distinguish from early signs of preterm labor.

Play it safe and don't try to make the diagnosis yourself. If you haven't hit 37 weeks yet and you're having four or more contractions in an hour, or have any other signs of preterm labor, call your caregiver immediately.

By the time you're within a couple of weeks of your due date, these contractions may get more intense and more frequent, and cause some discomfort. Unlike the earlier painless and sporadic Braxton Hicks contractions that caused no obvious cervical change, these may help your cervix "ripen": gradually soften and efface, and maybe even begin to dilate a bit. This period is sometimes referred to as "pre-labor."

braxton hicks aren't really any idication of whether labor is very close or still weeks away. one way to know if you're having 'real' contractions is if the feeling starts more in the back - though that never happened to me. i never felt braxton hicks except if my hand was on my belly when i had one and i felt it get hard. i didn't feel 'real' contractions either until i was already 7cm and about to deliver. other tests are to get up and walk around, or lay still and see if they stop or speed up. braxton hicks are erratic. real contractions follow a pattern.

I will be 35 weeks on Tuesday and have been feeling those since probably 30 weeks. Yes they are annoying its hard to move around while they are going on. But now I get em like all day. I doubt I'd even know I was in labor until they got super bad lmao.

It is your body preparing for birth. Just watch how often and if they get closer and stronger and stay that way then call your OBGYN/MIDWIFE. Most woman have braxton hicks throughout the entire pregnancy.

Yes, that is common, but it is happening a bit early in your pregnancy. That shouldn't happen until around week 36. Please let your doctor know that this is happening. This late in your pregnancy you really aren't in any danger (and neither is the baby). However, you may have the baby a little early!

This happens to most of us. Your body is preparing you for the real thing. Mention it your next doctor's appointment. You will probably deliver ealier than your expected due date. Good luck. At one point I had BHcontractions and and didn't even feel it.

Ditto everyone else. Btw, how much water are you drinking each day? Sometimes the uterine will contract if you aren't well hydrated. Try drinking more water each day and see if that helps.

I had this happen every night for the last five weeks of my pregnancy it`s nothing serious as long as they don`t become consistent or you start losing fluid.good luck with everything!
