Because a lot of baby boomer that lived during the MMC are still alive and kicking therefore they are remembered fondly as childhood icons.

I think because of all the celebs that went there and now where they are today.Also Mickey Mouse is still a disney icon and alot of people/kids like Mickey,and we cant forget the Mickey song!
