Call your apartment manager first to alert them to the problem. They may have a plumber that they will allow you to call out or a maintenance person, but make sure you know who pays the charges. Do not use any chemicals! Get something called a plumber snake for about 5-10$ and a sturdy pair of rubber gloves. Wearing the gloves, push the snake through the toilet pipes best you can. It may take a few tries to get the knack. If you hit what you believe to be a clog, try twisting the snake using the handle that is usually provided. Pull the snake out and inspect the end for any debris. Try flushing again and plunging. If it still doesn't work, you'll have to get someone to look at it. Another angle may be that if you have a "water saving" toilet, it may not be clogged because certain models do not flush well. My wife and I dealt with this in a condo we recently moved into. Talk to your apartment manager about replacing it if that is the case.

If your plunger is one of those reddish rubber head that looks like the one usually associated with plungers you might try a more effective plunger. I have never had a toilet stop up that I couldn;t unclog by using a plunger that has a large water capacity and flutes that look like and accorian for extra force with the plunger. You might need to just be persistant with your plunging. Eventually the smaller particles ( Toilet paper fibers, Pieces of poop etc) will work its way down. I like to fill the bowl up with water ( use a pitcher or a bucket) then fill the head of the plunger with water before you push...in other words push with the water not air. I work the water with full strokes trying to move as much water back and forth over the clog, and sometimes have to work the plunger as long as 2 or 3 minutes before it breaks loose. I have a hang up of some kind in one bathroom and it clogs every week or so. Sometimes it clogs daily if my grand-daughter's have visited and played dressup and makeup. Lots of paper going down the tube when they visit Anyway...Try the other plunger. You can get one tonight at WalMart for about $6. Cheap investment to keep from calling a plummer. Hope this helps Good Luck

I'd keep working that plunger until my arms got too tired to move. No chemicals and no pointy things hitting your pipes is the best way to go. You might try some baking soda and vinegar if you think the clog is organic. If you think something non-organic dropped in there, you will need a plumber with an electric snake to fish it out. If your toilet and drains are chronically slow, be sure to run boiling water through them occassionally to keep them self-cleaning.

Take a bucket and fill it with hot water, and quickly pour it down the drain in the toilet, only if there is room in the toilet for the water. This usually works every time

Lift the lid up on top of the toilet.See if there is water in there. If there is try pulling the chain up to see if it helps. If there isnt water put some in there.Hope it works,it did for me one time.Have towels ready just in case.Good luck.

You need to call maintenance because if you get a sewer backup everyone's crap will end up coming out of your sinks and toilets. No kidding. Call Maintenance.

If you can't get it yourself, call your landlord. It's pretty gross, but it's his responsibility to cover it.
