There are a plethora of examples of Greek arrogance after only ONE success. Look at Euro 2004.

Odysseus from Homer's "The Odyssey." He became arrogant and prideful after his victories in the Trojan War and thanked only himself and not the gods. This is why it took him so long to get home from the war and why he suffered as he did during his journey.

I can't think of the guys name but this is the charecter I thought of when reading your question. There was this guy that looked into a pond and saw his reflection and refused to leave the pond because he fell in love with himself. It kind of fits your question.
