I recently upgraded both my 250W power supply to a 500W Coolmax and my FX5200 8x AGP to a 7600GT AGP. For about a week nothing went wrong and then today, my PC just shut down. I figured the problem is with my PSU, but that is odd since the requirements are 350W and I easily beat that. My PC runs w/o the video card connected, but as soon as I plug it up, my PC won't start. What is the problem? Is the PSU faulty? Is the graphics card broken?

It may very well be the power supply. Coolmax isn't a very good brand. If you want relatively low cost, but a good sturdy power supply that can actually handle the load that the wattage would suggest, you should try a Fortron. Also know as FSP (Fortron Source). They're not Antec, but they definitely do the job. Check them out on newegg.com

Do you know someone who has a computer with an AGP slot so you could test your new video card in their system and see if it's working all right? Does your motherboard have integrated video that works when the card isn't in? It might not be the power supply, but everything has to be tested somewhat independently.

Chances are the PSU could be faulty, it's best you take it back to where you got it and exchange it -- if it happens again, try getting a refund.

-- I agree FPS and Antec have good power supplies, but I have an XClio PSU 500 watt, dual 12v+, 50 USD. Powers my x1900xt and Pentium D, a power hog system. =(
