I visited Oklahoma for about 2 months in 2000 and lived near Oklahoma City University and I was fine. It is dead but the cost of living is so cheap. Houston is getting overly crowded and I want a change. I am pregnant and have a certain amount that must last a certain amount of time, I think I may be better off in Oklahoma City. I would like to know of some decent areas of town to live in that are not too expensive.

Texas is good, but houston is definately overpopulated at this point due to certain natural disasters. I want to move and have some room to breathe. Cost of living has went up since and still rising. Apartments are almost double what they were a year ago.

Hi, have a look at the Oklahoma City web site.
It covers lodging, real estate, health, shopping, services, weather, events etc.
I think this is a good way to get to know a city before moving there.

And the convention and visitors bureau site:

You can also check the (daily) local papers for rentals too.
The Oklahoman:

The Journal Record

Good luck with the move and don't forget to visit the Survivor Tree when you go.

Living near the Galleria = bad traffic, all the time. Living near Greenspoint = hope you're armed. The Heights is nice (especially for people with no kids, tons of great restaurants and it's very pretty if you like to walk around), Garden Oaks and Oak Forest have nice areas also. These are all just north of downtown, you'd be about 15-20 minutes (in traffic) from the Galleria. Travel to Greenspoint would be even easier, because although I-45 N is notorious for its terrible traffic jams, you'd always be going the opposite direction of those at rush hour.

Are you really stuck on moving to OKC? There is a town 100 miles north of there called Ponca City. I lived there long ago...and remember if fondly. I've heard it has really grown into a nice size town. As far as I am concerned....it is much better than OKC. The last I recall....OKC wasn't really that wonderful. But that's just up to you. If you like big towns...you might want to consider Tulsa instead. Just throwing in my opinions.....since I was born and grew up in Oklahoma. (I love Texas...and never want to leave!)
