Speaking of Pres. Ford and flying the flag at half-mast reminds me of this oldie: How many know which takes longer, to raise the flag to half-mast, or to full-mast?

It takes longer to put it up and take it down and you ring the flag to the top of the mast them bring it down half-way.

Whe you take it down, it goes up to the top and comes back down

Half-mast To do it proper, raise the flag to full-mast then lower it respectfully to 1/2 mast

When it goes to half mast, you take the flag all the way up then bring it down. At least that is what I remember seeing.

Half - mast. to do so properly you must first raise the flag to full mast, then lower to half mast.
