One of my coworkers today told me that another coworker was saying I talk to much and don't get my work done! It was in the morning when he told me. I said my usual hi and got water to drink and he told in these words "Liz,someone is talking about you that you talk to much and don't do your work." I asked who said this but he wouldn't tell me. Then I went back to work. He told me he wouldn't worry about it. I have been with the company for 8 years and I know I'm a great worker. Customers love me they tell the store manager how much also but I know sometimes I can talk to a customer or coworker to much. What should I do?

Unless an owner/manager has found this an issue and discussed it with you I wouldn't pay to much attention to 3rd party comments. Co workers are the evil at times and some just like to stir the pot. Unless a upper management person seeks you out about this continue on doing what your doing. Sounds like you've been doing a hell've job for the last 8 years why fix what isn't broken!

Maybe the person who informed you is a trouble maker or maybe that person is letting you know.
Best thing to do is discuss it with your manager so this issue is out in the open which is the best way to deal with it.
If someone has a point to make then say it out. If you feel you are a good worker and commended by customers then that is all you need to know.
Discuss this with your manager so that they are aware that you know someone has been saying something or maybe it is your informant but there are no secrets.

Truth is malicious gossipers hate exposure as they prefer behind your back so open up what you have been told and if it is malicious they will be exposed or quickly cower away from being shamed and leave you alone - quickly!

Limit you talking. And the next time that person comes to give you some news, tell him/her that if they can not tell you who the person is, that you are not interested in what they have to say. That is hear say, gossip. How does the boss rates your performance? Make sure you are not disturbing anyone, and go on you merry way. They may be envious, you never know. Do the best job possible.

You should report the incident to your supervisor immediately. Either someone really said this about you, then you have a right to know who it was, or the person who told you this made it up to stir up trouble, in which case he deserves to be exposed. Either way, it is creating a hostile work environment for you, and it is your supervisor's responsibility to put a stop to it.

"Are you doing all your work lately? Is your boss satisfied with your work? If both answers are YES, than do not worry about it. Every time your co-workers make comments like those again, I think you should answer with Thanks for your observations" and move on. Tune-them out, they will get tired of not getting the attention they want from you.

If your boss hasn't mentioned it to you in the past 8 years I wouldn't worry. Keep doing what your doing and ignore the haters.

ask your supervisor if he/she thinks you talk too much and explain to him why you're asking and if the answer is yes then just try to cut back on the talking.
