When you start your vehicle, the airbag light is supposed to come on for a few seconds and then go out. If it continues to stay on after a few seconds, there has been a problem detected by the airbag system. If this is the case, PLEASE, DO NOT attempt to diagnose this problem yourself. Airbags are a very sensitive component, If you did attempt to do repairs yourself, it could deploy from only a static spark as some sensors in the system continues to store power even after the battery has been dissconnected, and if you are sitting in the seat when it does, it could cause you serious personal injury. PLEASE, take the vehicle to your dealer ONLY, not a repair shop, ONLY to your dealer. They are trained for the proper diagnosis and repair of airbag systems.

If it only comes on when you start the car and then turns off, this is normal as the car runs a quick self-check to make sure all the circuits are working properly.

You'll need a credit card with $25 left on it and visit: http://www.alldatadiy.com/ where you tell them exactly what vehicle you have and you can access the shop manual and see the TSB's for one year.

There will be trouble shooting charts to follow, as well as the safety aspects and how to disable this system before you work on it - should you need to take something apart.

If it comes on when the car is running then perhaps there is a faulty sensor.
