Greatest hits albums are for casual listeners of a band or for people who want to listen to a bands best songs without spending too much cash. Serious fans, though, will probably want all the bands songs, even the lesser known ones.

if you really like an artist, you should have all their albums before the greatest hits come out. Secondly, there's more to an artist than their greatest hits. You could be missing out on so much just getting the greatest hits and being a poser in the eyes of everyone else for calling yourself a real fan.

i agree but if i really like a band i want there greatest hits. As an example I love Motley Crue, they have three greatest hits cds. I have all there cds, and there greatest hits. A true fan wants everything they put out

If I really like an artist (which I do, Red Hot Chili Peppers) I buy all of there songs, weather they're hits or not.

i'd rather buy the albums and rip them onto my computer and make my own 'greatest hits'. most of the time, i don't agree with their choices. their 'hits' may be my 'sh*ts'

thats true. if you like them, you don't want a collaboration of their most popular songs. you want ALL of the songs. and personally, i find that a lot of my favorite songs for a particular artist are never even released as singles so it doesn't become a hit record.
