My wife and I have had one since the day we got married.
We change it about every three or four months to make sure everything stays fairly fresh.
Oh by the way we have been married over 32 years.

The replicate or a reflective floor, for signaling help, is redundant. We live near a bunch of chemical companies (they started the town). So we have had information about what to pack for evacuation as well as sheltering in-place long before it was popular to do so. So it covers weather and terrorism type issues as well.
We have everything the Red Cross website suggests.

Firearms are a very personal choice, and may depend a lot on where you live and if you intended to stay in your home during a hurricane for instance.

i have a survival kit mostly for weather and earthquake related instances. just in case you never know.
food, first aid kit, duct tape, knife, cash, the regular stuff. not any guns yet. was thinking of getting a large machete instead. if hell does break loose, it will be ok until i get to the family compound.

how paranoid are you people?!! what exactly do you think is going to happen to you that you would need guns in your home?!! satistics show that if you have a gun it will more likely be used on you than the other person so really why would you want them in your home? they are dangerous and hurt and kill people when they are used. they are not toys. do you really want your children getting hold of a gun?
