Sheesh, not very well thought through answers IMHO.

The quick and dirty is that a fatter rear will slow down acceleration and handling because you have more rotational weight, more unsprung weight and both lead to a stronger gyroscopic effect... and that's outside of the fact that a fatter rear tends to have a slightly flatter profile, which Also effects turn-in.

Thinner eases those issues.... there's a Reason roadracers switch from 190's to 180's, and of Any people, they are the ones who use the most performance from the bike.

Times when a fatter rear come in ahndy are when you're doing lots of highway/interstate cruising, most often on long trips where you have lots of gear. It'll be slightly slower to soak up the heat, and slightly better at dissipating that heat so the tire will wear longer.

But if you're just hanging around a 500 mile radius, hitting corners, the smaller tire will Work better.

Ovbiously, you have to figgure out if you're Man (or woman) enough to run a tire that doesn't follow what's Popular...

It pays to be a bit careful here. Modern sports bikes are sophisticated machines & any changes to tyres or suspension can have some serious consequences. The first one that comes to mind is - width of back tyre will effect steering geometry as you lean into corners & can really get you in the brown stuff if not compatible. Before you make any changes from standard you need to talk to someone with a lot of knowledge of your bike model, preferably a someone like specialist bike mechanic - not a backyard hillbilly. I ride sports bikes & I use soft dual compound tyres because of the improved traction. I always buy bike tyres from big high turnover suppliers so as to avoid old stock which will be hardened and will perform less well.

style, many times. Rear tires are frequently a touch wider, simply by the different concepts expressed right here.....yet.... the most important reason behind those fairly fat rear tires is only undeniable looks. an rather fat tire only does no longer turn interior of an same way a narrow one does. It makes the rear sluggish. capacity? no longer the genuine reason in any respect. maximum of your braking capacity is......the front wheel. fairly of putting down the capacity, it truly is doing the opposite - on an same price or more suitable constructive. lots of the older cycles (and different more recent) run an same length on both ends. HD traveling motorcycles are a good celebration. there is others.

Lol, some crap answers. The thin tyres are going to make you look like a mug..

Thicker tyres have no less traction in the rain, you just have to have correct tread on your tyre.

Fatter tyres will increase acceleration as they have more surface area, make the bike mroe stable, better for cornering, better looks, better wheelies, better if you are going fast, there not going to slide out when you turn a sharp corner (atleast not as likely)

Ok so thin.. your going to look like your rolling on biscuits, then there going to pop lol, when you turn corners your going to run out of tread, and fall. probly will be better at top end.

Or the thin ones might be good for ice skating :)

a fatter tire with a wider width will give you more tire contact with direct pavement going straight line but would make bike steer slower cuz tire is more flat than round curve

with thinner tire, bike tire would be less contact with pavement going straight line but steer much faster cuz tire is more rounder.

hope that help

A fat tire will give more traction. Pro.

A fat rear tire will also hydroplane more in the rain. Con.

ok, you mean bicycle right? well, thinner tires go flat easier than the fat ones.

the fat ones slow you down, if your into speed, than go for the thin and stay on the road.
