Representation of the People, by the People, for the People. I am very sorry to say that the level of his IQ DOES play a role in the shabby and disrespectful way with which he deals with all forms of conventions, The Constitution and the People.

He is on a scorched earth policy because as I have read here on so many occassions, Bush has to repay the Corporates that made sure he was selected twice, 2000, and 2004.

In a democracy, the President works for the people. Technically, the U.S. is a "republic". Thus the dynamics of government are such that the President may use the "bully pulpit" to sound the battle cry until next election. Therefore, the rhetoric of, "let's reason together", was P.R. narration to get us through the holidays.

Have you seen a democracy lately? I havent....what is the difference between a dictator arresting persons and keeping them away from a trial by the peers and some of what is going around. It used to be that the government works for the very people who elected them, now they say there are so many secrets that need to be kept away from the very people the government serves that they do need need to inform you as to why they are not having a trial for an accused. What democry..are we talking about.

Yes, he does. Mr Bush seems to have a warped idea of what democracy is. He is totally out of touch with the people of this country. The president works for ALL people from the corporate executive living in Beverly Hills to Joe Blow the factory worker living in rural Ohio. He even works for the Welfare mother living in Chicago. I hope that our next President will realize and remember this.

EXCELLENT question!!!!

We, the voters put him in power. He has the authority to send troops anywhere he wants, unfortunately. And there isn't a lot congress or anyone else can do about it.

About all congress can do is stop funding. But, that would only hurt the american serviceman. They are the people we don't want to hurt.

In 2008, I'm voting for Abraham Lincoln. He's been dead for decades but, he can't do much worse that Bush.

Yes, the President needs to work with the Congress. That is one of the reasons why they control the purse strings. It forces the President and Congress to work together, and why the foundering fathers of this republic created this way. Unfortunatley, this President thinks feels he is above everything and everyone. Therefore, he doesn't listen to anyone. Even the Representives in Congress elected by the people to represent them.

... its been shown in past study of history that democracys really dont work very well in a time of crisis ... a couple of other presidents have done the same thing during time of war like lincoln and fdr ... the problem i see with it is that in the past its understood that those "emergency powers" will end when the crisis is over ... although theres always the threat that they might not ... but in this present "war on terror" theyre talking about it lasting for years --- decades ... so the question is where are we headed with this .. are we trading our democracy for a semi permanent constitutional dictatorship? ... i dont think the current situation can be classified with the crisis of the past ... i think the current situation has been concocted and is devious ...

Since we're a republic, the president is actually elected by the electoral college, so the American public has never had a direct say in the election or direction of this country...this government was set up by rich, white, heterosexual, (some slave-owning), upper-class, landed, men and it hasn't changed much since.
