since i am afraid to tell my mom about this(i don't know why) i would like to do it myself. i am 13 years old and my mom did hers herself when she was 14. she said i could have one now only if she would be able to to it herself. which i am NOT letting HER pierce my skin. im tired of being like everyone else. no one at my school has a nose piercing (believe it or not) and i like to be different. i would like to do it myself, and im wondering how should i go about this. the most painlessly way please.

It is best to go to a piercing/tattoo shop for this.

You should not pierce it yourself because of a few reasons...
1. Sanitation - you can not guarantee that the tools you're using are sterile. Cartilage is slow to react to antibiotics, so if you end up with an infection, it can get very nasty and be hard to cure without removing the jewelry and allowing proper healing.
2. Proper placement - a piercer can determine this. There are many nerves running through your nose, and if the jewelry is placed wrong, you could nick a nerve and end up with an obnoxious twitch.
3. Jewelry - only certain types of jewelry should be used with a nose piercing, especially a fresh one. You can NOT use piercing studs, or J-hooks. Trying to remove a stud from your nose is excruciating and will only make matters worse. A J-hook can easily fall out, so don't use them until the piercing ahs healed completely. The piercer would generally use a small gauge ball hoop.
4. The needle itself - the needle that pierceers use is actually hollow, so it removes the flesh as it goes through th nostril. If the skin/cartilage is not removed, you will most likely end up with a lump and more swelling than necessary.
5. Numbing - a piercer can numb you so that it won't hurt as badly. It's mostly a sharp twinge that you'll feel, not like getting your ears pierced. And you will hear a pop, it's normal.Your eyes will most likely water, but thats normal too.

It's also not terribly expensive to have it done professionally - usually around 30 or 40 dollars. I'm sure your mother wouldn't mind the expense to ensure that it is properly pierced.

Hope this helps...

Ok, well it depends on what you pierced it with. Whatever you pierced it with may have been too small compared to the ring itself. It will probably be a bit painful if you try to push the nose ring through right now. I would tell you to get it LOOKED at by a professional piercer, though. Also, you have to be careful and clean it regularly because infection could set in, since you did it yourself.

once you do it the first time youll realise its really not a big deal. Just put ice on it for a couple of minutes and pierce it with the stud, you will hardly feel a thing... watch out for infections though, and for everyone that says you shouldnt get piercings, who says you cant just take it out, its not like getting a tattoo on your face

This is strange. Your mom won't let you get one unless she does it? That's stupid. If you can't go to a professional, I would wait to have it done. You're only 13. Be different by your personality, how you dress (unless you wear uniforms), the things you like to do. If your school is uptight they wont think you're different they'll think you're a weirdo.

Let me get this straight, you want to look different by scarring your nose in such a way that can cause an infection that could make your nose swell and ooze pus.

yum, that is a good plan. Very unique.

ok, for one dont do it your self. at my middle school people are weird, there is one girl who has her lip pierced, and she did it her self. got infected had to go to the hospital during school. she could talk. another girl pierced her nose by herself, got infected. she could breath out of that nostril. had to go the the hospital to. they were both out of school for a week. so take my advice, let your mom do it. she has experience.

Go to claires or something (you'll have to bring your mom). My friend tried peircing her belly button to piss her mom off, but it ended up getting infected. Not good.
