At the beginning of a sentence is always a good place to capitalize the word, following the amount as well as an abbreviation of the country is another. $100 US Dollars or $100 AUS Dollars, $100 CAN Dollars.

Capitalize the first letter of a word if it's the first word of a sentence and when its a proper noun.

'If gold refers to a distint name of brand or company, write 'Gold'
If gold refers to the common element, write 'gold '
Correct: I've traded 20 gold bars/coins with that guy'
