Obviously, there many different possible answers.
The invention of the telephone has been traced to several different people and times - the standard placement of that honour is to Bell (1876), Meucci (1860) made a very similar device.
I'm from Arizona - so Air Conditioning is definitely on the list! Carter (1911).
The automobile: Benz and Daimlar (1885). Refined into a "truer" automobile in René Panhard, Emile Lavassor, France, 1891
Camera: (hand-held) George Eastman, U.S., 1888
Alternating-current electric generator Nikola Tesla, U.S., 1892.
(The manner in which almost all modern "plug-in" devices get energy)
In 1874, two Canadians - Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans - created and patented the first electric light bulb. They later sold the patent to Thomas Edison for $5,000. Edison perfected the electric light bulb and was the first to market the device successfully.
Motion pictures: Thomas A. Edison, U.S., 1893.
Phonograph: Thomas A. Edison, U.S., 1877.
Plastics: (first material, nitrocellulose softened by vegetable oil, camphor, precursor to Celluloid) Alexander Parkes, England, 1855; (Celluloid, involving recognition of vital effect of camphor) John W. Hyatt, U.S., 1869; (Bakelite, first completely synthetic plastic) Leo H. Baekeland, U.S., 1910; (theoretical background of macromolecules and process of polymerization on which modern plastics industry rests) Hermann Staudinger, Germany, 1922. (The last one's out of range)
Tape recorder: (magnetic steel tape) Valdemar Poulsen, Denmark, 1899.
Airplane - Wright brothers 1903.
....
I think the conventional response would be automobile, telephone and light bulb.
You could also use three catagories:
Travel: Car and plane.
Communication: Telephone.
Recording: Phonograph, camera, movies etc.
Good luck!

In fact, we have more than 3. You just have to choose the ones u consider the greatest. In my view, all of them have made great contributions to the present life. Of course, I have not taken into account some of the inventions during WW I; I just don't consider them the greatest -they meant 'perfecting wars.'
Motion Pictures were perfected
1st Silent Movie
1st Flight
Theory of Relativity
1st Trans-Atlantic Radio Signal
1st Electric Washing Machine
Ford introduced the Model-T
Cubism introduced by Picasso
Invention of Plastic
The Tango catches on
Discovery of the Structure of the Atom
Parachutes were invented
SOS accepted as Universal Distress Signal
1st Traffic Light
1st Commercial Radio Broadcast was aired

Maybe the telephone, motion pictures and the first practical automoble to be powered by an internal combustion engine (though Einstein "invented" E=mc2 in 1905 - and, in 1913, the bra and the zipper were invented.)
For a list of all the maojr inventions between those years, please use the links below.

Recorded sound! Recorded music is a wonderful thing. I think Edison first tried it by saying "Mary had a little lamb" into a piece of foil or something.
Telephones-it's nice to keep in touch with people-with letters if you forgot to write something in there then you're screwed
Cameras
Not so sure about cars-I think they caused more damage to our society than good.
