OH!
I'm happy to answer this
I've had it in both legs for an entire track season
well ice them each night and after EVERY work out (even like the very first track practice) 20 minutes on 10 off... its better for the shin to do it that way
ice makes it stronger the following day... its not necessarily meant to numb it
learn to tape(wrap) your shin the right way if its painful
just to walk or you have to run (like for track meets) you can ask a physical therapist how or google it
Stretch! everyday... especially shin stretches... before and after practice/workouts
Gel Inserts
Advil extra strength
Ice baths - cold water and add ice - I hate them but a lot of people love them cause they work
Make sure your shoes fit and arn't more then a year old
100% full proof plan -- (this prevents shin splints by excercising your shin muscle) --- sit down and rotate your ankle and move your foot up and down a lot - sometimes people use a jump rope and pull up on the rope as they push down their foot
trust me

If you have to run, do it on a soft surface, shin splints are actually breaks in your bone,so the best way to get rid of it, is to treat it like a broken bone. I get shin splints too, from running on my toes,,,,,,,but I can't do it any other way because I have such arched feet.

Motrin and ice for swelling and pain. Stay off your feet as much as you can. Once they start feeling better, put your feet under a couch, the bar of weights...anything with weight and lift your toes up. This will help strengthen your shins.

I've had them quite often, and the best way to get rid of them is to rest for about two weeks, stretching your calves and your hamstrings. Take hot showers or baths, anything to relax your muslces. But just take it easy.

The only way to get rid of it is rest. I've had it in both legs. Just time and rest.

Make sure you're stretching after warming up and after working out. Also make sure you're wearing proper shoes for the activity you're doing - don't wear running shoes if you're walking for exercise.

put a cold compress on them if they are swollen. Otherwise, you could wrap them in an ace bandage.
