The actual department that handles birth and death certificates in the state is known as the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Most of the time, you can go to your local county health center and get one from there. They cost around $10 to $15. Hope this helps.

County Courthouse is good....could be called Dept of Public Records, Recorder's Office, County Clerk's office....dunno, many different regional names based on locale.

you can never get your actual birth certificate. To get a copy of it go to the town/city hall of the town/city that you were born in and ask. You might have to pay a little fee though.
