Well, first off, are you nursing her? If you are, it might be your diet. Try eating things that are not constipating. No chocolate, rice, or cheese. If you are not nursing, it could be the iron in her formula. Switch her to either Enfamil Gentlease for babies with fussiness or gas or to something similar. Both of my children had this and switching them resolved it. Don't eat soy, either, because that could cause it sometimes. Until then, give her the Fleet baby suppositories. They work.

Don't give your child juice at 5 days old!! The only thing that might be okay is a little drop of karo syrup in with a bottle. My doctor recommended this for my daughter and it worked wonders! My daughter had a lot of constipation issues when she was younger and some other things recommended were warm baths, "tummy" massages, and insterting a thermometer anally just like you're taking her temperature (make sure to use a little petroleum jelly on the tip... and prepare for poopies!).

BTW, if you do the thermometer one.. make sure you have a diaper or something underneath her because it's an INSTANT magic worker.

If she doesn't appear to be in any pain.. give it some time and see if she can go on her own. It's pretty common for babies to go through this and it's VERY common to CONSISTENTLY go 3 days in between poops.

A few things either say give her watered down juice or some sugar water being that young it probaly is due to too much iron if she is on formula since breastmilk babies poop religiously and it looks like funky mustard so maybe you should talk to the doctor about switching formulas to a brand with less iron or half milk half soy based she will pass it easier. Plus 99% of pedi docs have where you can speak to a nurse so give them a call to see if you can help it at home without a doctor visit and charge then wait till the next check up and ask about formula switch to less iron or something with not so much milk protein or lactose. The formula is a little more expensive but will keep away the constipation. Or just give baby some water. Since they might think obstructed bowel in baby so young.

There are enemas avail for infants. Two days is no need to worry yet, keep in mind that the baby just took in food days ago and in the form of a liquid. As long as the baby is frequently urinating, that is good. The poop should come by day 4. And if you are in doubt you can always go to an ER or set an appt with your doc. Breast milk has fatty solids which will take awhile usually 3 days after the black/green tar like poop (which is actually bile). then the poop will look like yellowish milk solids.

This is pretty normal. My son did the same thing. I called the doctor and they said to give him an ounce or two of water, or 1/2 water, 1/2 juice. You can also put vasaline on the end of a thermometer and insert about 1/2 an inch into their bottom. It makes them feel like they have to push, which makes them go. The doctor said babies can go a week without going before they need to be seen. Hope this helps!

hmmm nothing as ur baby is just 5 days old! Doc cud max. try inserting a thermometer or a small tube to get rid of gas or something which has blocked it way out. Or cud just do nothing at all. Wait for a few more days. I daughter was without pooping for 5 days after her birth! So relax.

Too young to do anything. Babies are weird. My son would go 3-5 days without going, then overload his diaper for 2 or 3 days. If it doesn't appear to bother the baby and she is eating fine I wouldn't worry too much. When she gets older prune juice/water mix usually does the trick.

If your child is showing signs of discomfort or irritation, I would suggest adding a little Caro syrup to their normal bottle. If you child isn't showing any symptoms other than the missing bm's, you may just try waiting and keeping an eye on them. Call the doctor if you are really concerned. Both of mine went through this-the first I tried suppositories and it made her more upset, my second I tried just the Caro syrup in her formula and she was fine.

My baby had this problem at 2 weeks. I took her to the doc they checked her then he stuck his pinky in her butt to get it going. And it went for a while. But if your baby is nursing they can go up to 17 days without having a bowel movement. At that age I would still double check.

My daughter was around 2 months old when she first got constipated and her doc said to give her warm sugar water. ( 2 tsp. to 4 ounces of warm water) My sister in laws little one is 3 weeks and her doc told her to give her warm apple, white grape or prune juice. ( 1/2 water and 1/2 juice ) Both remedies worked!
