On American Idol why do people wait in line for hours just to be made fun of because they can't sing? Is it because they're trying to get their 5 mins of fame or do they honestly think they can sing? I've never understood this. Although, it is a guilty pleasure to watch :) I watch the first 3 episodes and then the finale. LOL.

Well, different people--different reason--some of them do think they can sing, some want so badly to have the fame and money attached with AI that they convince themselves they have a shot and are then devasted.
Since they prepick the singers that go before the judges, they will either be very good or very bad..pretty good or moderate or average bad singers singers will be canned or sometimes good ones missed or unappreciated by the judge they get or mess up.
At that point, if you have self awareness or honesty and you are not that great..you probably know you are there to be made fun of but still might get your few minutes of fame if you can be bad enough or weird enough or react emotionally or badly or stand out in some way..it'sd like a consolation prise--well I got this far..I don't stand a chance but at least if I stand out I can get on TV
Some don't know if they are good and want a professional to tell them so they don't waste their time..others will not believe anyone who says they can't sing..some aren't that bad and are judged too harshly for wahtever reason. Some use the rejection as motivation to try harder to prove judges wrong and maybe a few even make it..maybe some hope to be the next Willianm Huung
After the initial auditions, those that are ok are not really sure what group they are in..they have to hype themselves up to do welll and be confident and then are devasted. Some just have a 'well let's try and see what happens" some are obsessed with the show or a judge and want to actually be there to see them. Some think it will be interesting to see how far they will get so they know a little behind the scenes stuff and can entertain people back homes and down the road with stories. Some hope to meet someone who will be picked and then they can say..that guy in the finals was sitting next to me..some do it on a dare and when picked they already signed a contract saying they can't back out.

Yeah, i think some of these people really do think they can sing, i know from previous shows some of them really get mad when they aren't picked. Every year i think that same thing people will do crazy things just to be on TV i would never embarrass myself doing some of the stuff i have seen on there lol . I laugh every year i see the additions for the show lol

If you thought that you could reallt make it on that show then wouldn't you do it? Not to be mean or offensive towards you but these people actually follow their dreams instead of sitting back and waiting for it to go their way when it NEVER will. If you thought this was your only chance at your dreams wouldn't you take it? These people are going after their dreams not bieng stupid. So they actually think they can make it, and no if they just wanted to be on TV they wouldn't want to be humiliated in front of the whole nation. Yes, I have a very strong opinion on this and I'm just trying to prove my point.

On AI, the first audition process they do is with the producers, then,you have to be really good & idol potential or you have to suck. The network obviously gets higher ratings beacause more people want to watch the horrible people rather justatch a giant group of talented people.

They are pretty stupid but, they are what makes the show. If they didn't have idiots that cant sing and think they can the show would be boring.

I think that those who purposely dress "odd" do it so they can get on TV. You can't tell me that those people don't know how it works--the weirder they are, they better chance they have to get on TV. As for those who are "normal" looking, I think they are just kidding themselves.
