ATP has a terminal phosphate tail that can be easily added on and taken off. When reactions happen breaking down molecules in the body the ADP bonds with a terminal phosphate to make ATP to store the energy. When energy is needed, the phosphate breaks off and ATP turns back into ADP. Its mainly an energy transport molecule in cells.
