Absolutely not (though many of their competitors like to claim that this is true). iPods will play music downloaded from the iTunes store (which is in the M4A format), standard MP3's (which everything plays and pretty much everyone else sells), or music that you've ripped from your own CD collection. So, all of your current music will play on an iPod without any problem.

No, you should be able to put any MP3's (or even MP4's on some versions) onto the Ipod.
You can use media player or real player to convert you CD's to MP3 or even any analogue audio (cassettes or vinyl - see http://cassette2cd.co.uk/diy for more on this)
Have fun!

no. you can get rip music from your CD's, limewire or any other file sharing software. just make sure you have a usb cable so you can transfer songs to and from the computer. you don't have to pay a single cent for music. best things in life are free.Ü

no, you don't have to buy songs from itunes. you can import songs from your computer/cds and then add them to your itunes library and import them that way. you can also use realplayer to update your ipod. i don't think you can do that with windows media player.
