It depends on what you are going to do before the game. If you want to watch the warm-ups, buy some food/drinks, shop in the store....then 30-60 minutes early is okay. Since you are asking, this is probably a new experience for you, and you should get there early to take in the whole NHL experience, and at Boston I am sure they'll have some great history displays around the building to see. For me, with season tickets, I try to be in my seats before the anthems start, and if not, hope for a two anthem night so I can get there before the game starts.

this is probably a guideline meant to ensure that, even if you encounter reasonably expectable delays getting to or inside the arena, you'll still be in your seat before the game starts, and won't miss any of the action. depending on how badly boston traffic affects the commute, if you drive down and require parking, whether or not you spend a few minutes in concession lineups, 15 to 30 minutes should be sufficient. it's not like they'll refuse you entrance just because you arrive late. i've gone to flames games as late as second intermission!

If downtown Boston is anything like downtown Toronto during rush hour, I'd get there two hours early to eat at a restaurant instead of the overpriced crap in arenas and check out the arena itself as so little people do that nowadays.
Go Leafs.

I like to arrive an hour early because I want to have plenty of time to park, buy food/drinks, stop by the souvenir stand if I want to, and get to my seat before warmups start. If you only allow a half hour and there are parking issues or long lines at the concession stands, you could miss part of the first period.

I always get an hour or an hour and a half early before we go see the Hurricanes play. If you dont, you will be waiting a long time to get into the arena. You can get your food and find your seats better if you get there early to.

If you don,t have tickets in advance it,s possible that you could need an hour to park and then buy tickets from a ticket sales booth. I recently attended a Blackhawks game and the wait in line to buy tickets was more than half an hour.

Some folks like to see the warmup skate etc. Other folks like to slide into their seats just before the opening faceoff. If you are in the latter group, 30 minutes should be fine.

A half hour should be good at the TD but 45 min. would probly be a bit better b/c parking there is a b****, unless you take thetrain which would be a very good idea
