Not so sure of a good site, but the knit-around and other knitting loops you can get at craft stores make excellent basic hats. you can knit a cuffed one, or one with a flat brim that rolls.

try going to a JoAnn and picking up a instruction book. or go to their websight. Also there is instruction books @ book stores!
