Hmm this sound like the Animal Planet special where they pit two animals against each other to see who wins, like aligators and shark, mountain lion against grizzly bears, but hamster against gerbils. LOL

well for speed a gerbil is much faster and swifter than a hamster because gerbils are much smaller and they seem hyperactive all the time. Hamster are much fatter, their short leg and big butts does not aid in speed. Hamsters however has a bigger and longer front teeth than a gerbil, so that one bite could lead to deadily consequences.

The verdict:
Gerbils. Although they are much smaller than hamster and has smaller front teeth. Their speed and swiftness can outlast a hamster. Unless you pit a dwarf hamster against a gerbil, then we see some competition cause the dwarf hamster is almost similar to the gerbil.
