As "gynaeco-" is the Greek for "woman, female" a gynaecologist is someone who studies women's matters. The word cannot apply to men. The male equivalent would be "andrology" but I haven't seen it around.

We have Urologists (for the front) and Proctologists (for the rear) and I see both every six months for a general check up and cancer screening. Not because I have a problem, but for a simple check up. Pre-screening can and does save lives!

Guys have TWO types of doctors which specialize in male "issues." Granted, males aren't pressed to see these specialists on such a regular basis as women are, but they are also not as "at risk" for as many diseases, infections, or complications due to pregnancy. (Duh...men can't and don't get pregnant, silly girl.)

The closest would be a proctologist for the prostrate area, and a urologist for the urinary tract area.
