They have already started.
Look at how efficiently the computers are able to make humanity sit and just stare at screens, slowly turning their brains and (especially) bodies to mush.
We must fight back before it's too la....

We didn't have memory chips in the 1800s. Anyway, there is some debate on this, but I would tend to believe that robots will take over many tasks we do now, that much is certain. If you mean take over in the hostile sense, then I doubt it for a few reasons. First, most wars are either over resources or ideology. Humans and machines don't need the same resources, and unless you program in an idealogy, why would they want to take over?

The future is a long time. There have been a number of times that people have worried about technology destroying mankind. The Frankenstein's monster concern has been there a long time before electronics became the focus of attention. Right now I can not see what constraint will be found that will keep computers from progressing beyond us. Today we do not think that a person with a replacement manufactured leg is anything but a person. Perhaps in the future, combinations of computers and people will become just as accepted.

I think eventually robots will be smarter than humans, and also eventually humans will be able to transfer their thought processes into robot brains and "merge" with them, so to speak, so that when your biological body dies off, your mind will live on inside a much stronger, younger-looking robotic body, and have greater intelligence, and last hundreds or thousands of years. It will be virtual immortality.

Yes, its true. Futurist Kurzweil predicts that around 2045 the first sentient computer will be built and what happens after that no one knows. It will have the power to improve itself at a fantastic rate and within minutes could become another God. What happens to humans then is anyone's guess.

Not very likely. There's a lot more to intelligence than computing power. But it does make for good science-fiction stories.

People used to say that all the time back in the 1960's; is that idea making a comeback?

No...While robots can be programmed to do terrible things, there will always be a way to stop them...
