Right now, the Intel Core 2 Duo processors are the best on the market.

I prefer AMD but how many programs really use 2 cores? I'd wait a little while, until more programs are developed that are capable with 2+ cores because prices are dropping...For example, the Athlon FX-74 was at $1,000 2 months ago...Now, it's $550. Also, Intel's still using FSB, so the processors are too fast for the motherboards, which leads to bottlenecking.

Personally, I have tried both CPUs and the Intel Core2Duo rocks! At one time, I would never have used Intel, but since I got the Core2Duo, I am staying with Intel. It runs much quicker, and more efficiently, makes encoding DVDs the quickest ever. It took just 20 minutes to encode and burn a DVD movie using the Core2Duo

Amd is much better.
1. It is easy to upgrade later.
2. It is cheaper.
3. It has shorter segments on the cpu pins so a mistake can be easily removed and quickly redone with less lockups and freezing.

AMD all the way. I've always prefered Amd for performance and compatibility.
