Definitely immortal through great works, first because if I were well known that means that I probably would have contributed something to the world, and second because I'd be remembered forever.

Greatness may last a thousand years for a few and eternally for none. On the scale of earthly time, individual lives are but mere blinks of an eye. We're born, we live, we die and then you're not heard from ever again. There might be a tombstone or family tree made with your name on it, but eventually the tombstone weathers from age and who knows what media your family tree will be used. All the memories and accomplishments will be totally forgotten, unless you're a Hitler or Alexander the Great type person (or through great works as you say

In a thousand years, your bones will be dust and no other trace of your existence will be seen, unless, of course you become fossilized for some reason, but even then, after thousands of years more, that will be disintegrated into dust. We influence the lives of our children and others, but they too will eventually die. So what's the point of living?

In astronomical terms, the Earth will eventually succumb to the supernova of our Sun, it's an astonomically certainty the earth will be burned to a crisp.

So does death render our lives meaningless. If we were immortal, that would be the ultimate in boredom, repetition, day after day, of doing the same thing for thousands of years (hundreds may be OK, but nothing beyond that)....so in answer to your question, it doesn't matter what i choose, all will be lost and forgotten in the long run, better to live for the moment.

I would rather be immortal through great works, instead of getting lost to history after generation.

Initially, most of us are born as a nobody. We are just ordinary people in the eyes of the world. However, the one way for the world to realise your name as immortal would be to do something amazing, or weird or ground-breaking. Something that finally make mankind open their eyes to you.

Being somebody is very difficult. Sometimes a painter or poet or writer becomes much famous and well-known after he/she is dead.

It doen't matter. It is what you think of yourself and the improvments you make that matters. Great works such as charity can be obscure and still be great if only in your own heart. With eternity comes only yourself. Life here is but a blink of the eye.

How many people have thought they would be immortal for their great works but are forgotten? I think everything will be forgotten in time. You, me and the person who finds the cure for cancer. We obtain fame, fortune, or glory all is forgotten in time.

It doesn't matter one way or the other when you enter the second and final life, which is what counts.
