I would say falling is the first thing that you need to learn in a lot of things. You have to learn to take a fall when you start karate classes, you have to learn the proper way to fall when skating so that you don't injury yourself. So yes I'd say we'd have to learn to fall before we fly.

yeah, it is part of the process, if you fall enough you'll learn the proper way to hit the ground running so the flying thing will be better when you have to return to earth.

Technically, you won't fall unless you attempt to fly. So, the real lesson here is - if you fall, you know you have tried. If you haven't, then get started.
