it's very common.

My best friend went on a cruise and drank like a fish for a week and didn't know that she was pregnant.

Her dr. said not to worry about it at all but not to drink any more.

I think you need to drink consistently throughout the pregnancy to have a baby with fetal alcohol syndrome.

Alot of woman dont know they are pregnant in the first month. I mean I didnt know till I was 8 weeks and I know I had drank. My doctor said it was fine it wouldnt effect the baby, mostly because nothing was really developing that early....as far as the brain and whatnot. I'd be careful, but there is only so much you can do if you dont even know you are pregnant. Im sure woman go through it all the time. Later in pregnancy is when I would worry about fetal alcohol syndrome. Dont drink after you know...well thats just obvious. Good Luck

It could cause fetal alcohol syndrome:

Fetal alcohol syndrome is a group of problems in children born to mothers who drank alcohol during their pregnancy. These babies are usually small and underweight. They often have birth defects such as delayed development and, as they grow older, they may have behavior problems. The most serious problem is mental retardation.

What gives with the negative rating? I'm not stating an opinion but facts. The website as well as my doctor stated that even having only a couple of drinks during the course of a pregnancy may cause this.

It's obvious that some of you have no problem abusing your children if you find that there is something wrong with this response. Whoever gave me the negative ratings are probably alcoholics who couldn't give a damn about the well being of their children.

I have been told that for some reason your body somehow protects the egg the first month or two if you're driniking, how many of us have concieved and not found out until 1-2 months later (or even later?) So go ahead and enjoy a little drink if it helps you relax while you're ttc.

Luckily, the baby doesn't implant until about 4 days before your period is due. So you have a small "grace" period which ends at about the time when you miss your period, which is when you will suspect you are pregnant. So a few drinks during this time before you knew you were pregnant should not hurt the baby.

Do not worry about what you did before you knew you were pregnant, it will only drive you up the wall crazy. With both of my children I was 1 1/2-2 months pregnant before I knew I was and had been drinking. Only worry about what you do after you know you are pregnant! Hope that helps

are you already pregnant--or trying to get pregnant?
if you're trying--drinking alcohol can put a damper on that.

if you are already pg--as long as you stop ASAP-your baby should be fine, although the affects of drinking in pregnancy wont be known until baby is here and about a year old.

during the first two weeks there is no harm because you haven't really conceived yet. during the next week no harm is done because the baby hadn't been implanted. the fourth week it can harm the baby but i don't think you have much to worry about.

I had the same worry. I only had two beers, but I still freaked out.

There shouldn't be any major effects on your baby. Just stop as soon as you find out, and everything'll be fine.

Good luck!
