This could be due to be hemorrhoids, anal fissures, polyps, Crohn's Disease, peptic ulcer disease, and diverticulitis. Generally, the closer the bleeding site is to the anus, the blood will be a brighter red. Thus, bleeding from the anus, rectum, and the sigmoid colon tend to be bright red, whereas bleeding from the transverse colon and the right colon (transverse and right colon are several feet away from the anus) tend to be dark red or maroon colored. Stomach ulcers caused by ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin are common causes of upper GI bleeding. It could simply just be hemorrhoids, but I would have it checked out by your doctor.

On a scale of one to ten of serious this is only a three. Coffee grounds instead of fresh blood would indicate a problem high in the digestive system and is much more serious. It is probably a small blood vessel burst near the rectum. If it doesn't clear up after a couple of days see a doctor but don't loose too much sleep because it is not likely to be cancer.

I had this some months ago - painless but bloody and it definitely wasn't due to constipation nor piles. I kept an eye on it and it went off completely the next day. Have been ok ever since. May not be anything serious but tell her to see her doctor, at least for some assurance that it's nothing more serious

Usually that just indicates an irritation of some kind, like a nose bleed. I sure wouldn't jump to a cancer diagnosis. A call to an advice nurse sounds in order.

blood in anything is a bad sign, unless it is in your viens or from a cut. it could mean alot of diffrent things, none to pleasent. the best thing is for your friend to go to a doctor, first a regular doctor and then he will send you to another one. it all depends on what his tests says. just hope it is a hemoriod cause those are easy to take care of, while the others may be more serious.

Blood can be many things. Odds are if you ID it as blood, it must be red. If you see it bright red on the paper or in the water or on the fecal matter...That means it hasn't been digested, so it is usually from your anal area in the form of hemorrhoids, fissures etc.Not to serious.
Dark red blood in your feces, sometimes you can smell it (called frank blood) is a sign of digested blood that is coming from the GI tract. (stomach, intestines) That is not good. Possible cancer, but could also be a whole bunch of other things like ulcers. Either way, get it checked ASAP.
Bright red..hasn't been digested. hemorrhoids.
Dark,dark red...digested from GI tract.

hi. i can relate. i actually had the similar symptoms and i went to the doctor. i had an internal injury in my colon. so i was prescribed medicine and such.
this does not mean she has a cut in her colon and such, but, she does need medical attention if it is constant (the bleeding). it can be an infection and/or hopefully not cancer

Umm...that is something you might want to get checked out by a Doctor...however it sounds like it could be a hemroid. It could aslo be colitus. Hence why that should be checked out. Good luck!!

is it bloody stool or is it blood-tinged stool? if it is a bloody stool, that can be serious and usually is. if it is tinged with blood, it could be hemorrhoids or something minor like that.
it doesn't necessarily mean cancer...could be a gastrointestinal bleed. see a doctor.

i heard about cases like this from my friend who is a doctor. If it is continous they should really see a doctor for testing. For safety they should see a doctor imediatly to make sure there are no deeper problems.
