Sometimes women have to be hard as*es in order to get real respect at a job. It helps to get them further away from some of the stereotypes associated with women. In order to do that they have to push harder, be meaner, and fight more to get respect that some men naturally get. It can be a pain be that's just where our society is right now.

I've had a difficult female boss before, and I thought it was because she was female. But I have a female boss now, and I find her to be very easy to work with. The difference between the two is that the difficult one felt I was angling to take her job. Even though I could definitely handle her job, I was in no way attempting to take it on.

Well, anyway, I would guess that if you have trouble with the female aspect of it, it may be because women communicate differently than men do. Or maybe she doesn't like your attitude. Look within for the answers.

It could be personality differences.
In my time, I've had about five female superiors. Of them three were the worst managers I've ever had, two have been probably the best. I think women especially have a tendency to micomanage. They want the job done, but unfortunately (sometimes) want the job done their way, regardless if it yeilds the same result. It sucks, but sometimes you have to do things to appease them and realize this is just a means to an end.
The following is probably some offensive generalizations, but women can take things way to personally can be too emotional and in the same sense work with their "heart" as opposed to their brain. Hearts can be very decieving.

Probalby not much help, but like I said, not all women are difficult to work for. Somtimes it's just a matter of understanding her needs (which is a pain, it's a boss not a girlfriend) and also realize she's in that position for a reason and trying to deal as best as possible. :)

If everyone is having a problem with her, the problem is her. If you are the only one, the problem is with you. I hate to be so blunt but that's what it's all about. Do you have a problem with ALL female bosses??? You may want to get to the root of that problem. I've had male and female bosses over the years and cannot give a preference. We have always worked together to get the job done which is why we are both paid. You may want to try working with her instead of against her and you'll both be better off. If the problem is this one woman, it may be time for a new job, department, or company.

Are they ? A good number of women who have got on historically have had to be fairly strong willed and particularly persistant to get taken seriously. I haven't noticed too many examples lately but when I was first working there weren't many women getting to senior roles . In fact I am kind of thinking there are fewer now which is why I am not thinking of cases. In general I would say that when you are young and particularly if you are smart and ambitious working for anybody can be difficult.

"Women" are not difficult to work for, people are. The fact that your boss is a woman is more than likely irrelevant to your difficulties with her. If you're having problems, why not stop focussing on her gender and focus instead on why you 2 aren't getting along?

Well, back then men were the boss, it doesn't seem normal to be getting orders from a girl because men sometimes believe to be the boss. Hard to explain.

I think it has two parts. One, women in supervisory roles have to work harder to keep their status (its true, read the facts) and to have people trust them. This would come out as dictatorship, aggressiveness, meanness, etc. for most women.
The other part is that, in general, guys don't view female bosses the same way as male bosses and so it is harder for them to take them seriously and see them in a supervisory role.

What is your problem
can't you take orders from a woman?
Its no different than taking orders from a man
it must just be the male thing
get over it & you will be fine
she may even promote you if you are nice & helpful instead of not cooperating
