With an ipod shuffle does it ALWAYS shuffle the songs no matter what? Becuase i have a friend who might buy one and she asked me about it and i wasnt sure if it ALWAYS shuffles the entire time or if it only shuffles if you have shuffle mode on. If there is a shuffle mode, how does it decide what songs to play when its not on shuffle?

You can choose to play it according to the order you like or shuffled. Stupid thing if apple forgot about that. So the answer is NO, doesn't always play with the songs shuffled.
ADD: The order you put the songs on iTunes will be the order they play when shuffle mode is off.

There is a slider button on the Shuffle that determines whether it will shuffle the tracks or not. One setting looks like a looped arrow, and that will make it just play through the tracks in a continuous loop (when it hits the end of the list, it'll start back at the beginning). The other setting looks like an X, and that's for shuffle mode. When it's not in shuffle mode, it should just pick up the order from the track that is currently playing and proceed from there.
