Over the years, professional sports have become more business. Look at all of the money that goes into sports now... millions of dollars for a budweiser ad during the super bowl, gatorade post their product all over volleyball players during matches by even putting fake tattoos on the athletes, etc. Players will refuse to play if they don't get the pay check they want. They seem to forget along the way how much they once loved it and tend to drift into the business aspects. I love watching a player give back to the community they came from but in reality, it's a press release which gets them more publicity to make more money. The business side of sports has definitely taken over the sports world and made the prowess of the players into this world wide industry.

There would be very few athletes if they did not get paid. You bet it is a business and always has been. Even amateur athletic competitions are a business. Look how much some of the major collages get for going to bowl games.
