Solitaires are more expensive than clusters of diamonds and in my opinion much more elegant. But, if $$$ is an issue there are very nice cluster rings. I have a cluster but hoping one day for the perfect solitaire.

Solitaire. Small diamonds tend to have more imperfections and are not worth as much. Of course you can always get a solitaire with small diamonds surrounding it :-)

Depends on the quality of the stone. Most likely the solitaire would be more expensive, but if it was a very low quality stone and the small stones were very high quality, it could be the other way around.

A solitaire would cost the most, but it will also hold its value. The smaller diamonds will not.

solitaire cost more. If you have a carat solitaire and a carat cluster the solitaire will most definitely cost more.

Solitaire since large stones are more rare than small stones and therefore more expensive.

Definately the solitare. The cluster type rings all look cheap (in my part of the country they are very popular among a certain group of people). I loved (divorced) my solitare it was small by todays standard 1/2 caret. but it still had a classy elegant look to it. It's not the size of the diamond or the # of diamonds, its the love behind it. If he picked it out by himself, more power to him, he's really wants to please you.
