(1) Open windows explorer, click the BOX icon on the upper right until it no longer covers the entire screen.

(2) Browse to my documents, move the explorer window so that the contents of my documents, and the 'my pictures' folder (on the desktop) shows.

(3) Right click on the my pictures folder, and select COPY

(4) Right click on the my documents folder, and select "Paste"

(5) after you have verified that the images exist in both locations, then you know that you have moved the files correctly. You can now delete the copy that is on your desktop.

Notes:
This is the long long way of moving the files, however it ensures that you have done it correctly, and since your asking, i am assuming that you want that extra insurance.

Goood Luck !

Did you COPY the folder to your desktop, OR you MOVED it to your destop? This is VERY important.

If you KNOW that you made a COPY of it, you can just delete the folder on your desktop by dragging it to the Recycle Bin and you should still find the original My Pics folder from which the copy was made in the initial location (most likely inside your My Documents folder).

If you are not sure, go to Start and the My Documents folder where the My Pics folder is most likely stored. If you can find the My Pics folder in there, you can go ahead and delete the copy on your desktop. If you can't find it there, drag the My Pics folder on your desktop into the My Doc folder so that it's where it belongs to. By the way, I'm assuming that your OS is Windows XP.

You can re-add the short cut by going into My Pictures -right click the folder you want to move to the desktop as a shortcut only.
Go to the create Shortcut option. The shortcut will appear below your last filename then right click the Shortcut file and choose Send To from the menu then choose Desktop.

For the undesired files on your desktop/:
If your file and pictures are still in folders in My Pictures you have just copied them and not moved them. Manually drag or (DO NOT DELETE-it is not always reliable that you can recover them this way) move them to the recycle bin. Then open bin and right click on files you have just moved and click Restore to put them back in their original location.

you should have precise this second pressed Esc. Barring that, you should have precise this second pasted. with information from this time, if the information are not contained in the recycle bin, your purely decision is a few type of undelete software - yet do not receive something to that pc (do not even use it to browse the web). making use of yet another pc, receive a software like Recuva, placed it on a flashchronic or disk, convey it to this pc and run it. See if it would want to get better the lacking information. If not, do the same element with PhotoRec (you'll favor an externalchronic to get better the information to in case you do not have 2 demanding drives). PhotoRec will get better something that sounds like a record (it is forensic skill - the range of element police departments use - and it is loose), however it received't get better the names, purely the kinds. (So a jpg record will be a jpg record and a note document will be a document record.) you should flow by all of them and call them, one with information from one. it is going to "get better" information you deleted a lengthy time period in the past in the journey that they are nonetheless on yourchronic.

You should be able to simply drag & drop the entire Folder to where ever that you want. If you feel unsafe doing that, backup the folder to another drive or CD first, but drag & drop has always worked for me.
