I was not aware that they had become STI's. I think that book might be outdated because this was probably before they found out that they were actually STD(iseases) and thought that they were STI(nfections). That is my guess! Ask a doctor!

theyre actually 2 seperate things.
an STD (disease) is something non-curable (eg AIDS)
whereas an STI (infection) is something you can treat.
