I have had the same professor for four semesters while I was in colege. I recently received my OD degree and this particular teacher had been particularly influential in my studies.

So Im sitting here staring at a blank thank you note.
I don't want to sound so sappy or understate things.

Any suggestions?

I am avoiding the pre-printed Halmark cards and opting for a elegant sheet of scroll-parchment looking paper.

I just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication in the classroom this year. I appreciate all of the mornings and afternoons you stayed after class to offer extra assistance. Thanks for making my journey through your classes such a positive one.

Ask me to write a thesis paper and I'll do it in a day.
Ask me to write a thank-you note and I crumble.

Oh the horror.

Make it short and professional. No sappy cards. A genuine thank you would be really appreciated and be sure to be specific. Tell him, or tell her, something about why you believe them to be a good teacher. The best teachers try hard to be good at what they do. And most of us also work hard at trying to for strong relationships that promote learning. A thank you note that touches on these things would really make your teacher feel that what they are doing is worth it. You show class by doing it to!

The note that i wrote to my teacher was along the same lines - i ended up writing that people go through life never realising the importance of other people and their influences and i would just like to say that i realise the importance of your presence on my life - thankyou for making it a pleasant one.
It was my philosophy teacher so it made sense at the time - just show them that you have learned something from them in the words that you write

i like what you've written so far...I think it sounds good and he/she will appreciate it a lot! that's very thoughtful of you...not a lot of people go the extra step to express gratitude so anything you put will be meaningful and well received, but it sounds like you're going int he right direction...i like the parchment paper idea! and handwritten as opposed to store bought adds a special personal touch!

Maybe mention a specific lesson that he/she taught you, that sticks with you even today. Or mention a funny ancedote they might have told you that still makes you laugh when thinking of it..that kind of thing.
