I need to give that some thought, it was kind of unexpected.
Guess I'm not a person that expects the unexpected.

It means that you are expecting for something that most people would not expect. So, it is unexpected for majority of people and thats how it is worded. Normally majority of people would be expecting something different in the similar situation, so it is unexpected for them.

Live your life with an open mind and the unexpected is water off a Duck's back. Expect nothing and you will not be disappointed.

coz in the same way an optimist expects the best outcome
a sensible Realist on the other hand expects nothing and when they get the unexpected it makes a nice change & they remember they're alive.
