President Gerald Ford died. The flag is flown at half mast for 30 days following the death of a president. It was NOT flown for MLK.

The flag flies at half staff for 30 days following the death of a U.S. President so all flags should be at half mast. (Homeowners and businesses should follow the government's lead.) In Illinois, our state buildings lower the flags every time an Illinois soldier is killed, too.

Yes, President Ford died very recently, and the flags are at half-mast for him--as for any president, we mourn.

I don't know if they put them at half-mast for Dr. King or President's Day as well--I don't think so, but am not certain.

U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Para. 7, Sect. M. clearly states that at the of death of any President or Past-President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff for a period of 30-days beginning on the day of death.

The flag is flown lower longer for US Presidents, which is why you may have not made the connection. Its been a while but its etiquette to lower the flag for several weeks.
