How should I deal with ignorance?

I am at work, so I love coming to this section to help/answer questions. Today for some reason I have seen a lot of ignorance (ex. gay mint loaf, etc.). I do not like to answer these questions because I feel like I am demeaning myself. How do you guys/gals cope? (Sidenote: Would anyone hold it against me if I became ignorant once in awhile? LOL)

I am gay and very proud of it. I want those that are having trouble coping to accept it, enjoy it. You will feel better about yourselves and those around you.

You ignore the ignorant.
You cannot have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

There are several things you can do to 'handle' it and sometimes it depends what mood you're in at the time as to how! Most times other contributors will get on their case or, as others have said, the ignorant few don't actually have a clue of the topic, so when good answers are posted after theirs it just makes them look dumb.
Fight it with knowledge or wit, I say, and don't take it personally, which I know is easy to say but not always easy to do if it feels like just one insult after another!

I know what you mean. Basically, I sift through until I find a worthy question and then answer the hell out of it, in a way that makes me feel proud.

If it weren't for the times I get chosen best answer with the questioner thanking me for my answer (and not just a 'thx', but a real response), I might think it wasn't worth it, and just let all the stupidity on the boards take over. But it's those people who truly have questions that remind me why I like answering here.

I think it's okay if you are gay.
I'm straight but I am still nice about gay people. It's hard for them because so many people are mean. I want to be nice to them. If anyone is mean to you because you are gay, you should ignore them. Being gay is a human thing. It's normal. People aren't "SUPPOSED" to be either straight or nothing. You're ALLOWED to be gay.
Plus, gay guys have good style and they are blessed with the gift of being able to talk like a girl, which rocks. So enjoy it. =)
Let ignorance live alone. We don't need it.

I think the silver lining of witnessing all the hatred in this section is that for every homophobes that comes on here, there are ten more tolerant and accepting people to counteract them. it make me hopeful of society in general.

Mostly, I don't answer the homophobes' questions. Instead, I follow the rule of "report and move on". However, sometimes I think that we shouldn't be the ones that are doing all the reporting. May times we go unanswered and the same homophobes keep coming back and using different names. Just_ine_credible is actually talking a collection of hateful questions and answers that we report to her so she will give them to the FBI. You may want to email her for more info on this.

I hope that they are not the childish kind that do not know when to leave well alone. I did not really know how lucky I was to have the love and support of my partner until she died. Having come through severe depression I have found many who are friends and supporters.
If you find it necessary to have a good swear occasionally or otherwise let off steam, do it where the pests cannot see they have upset you.

you should undergo in ideas Goddess, that not anybody is as smart as you. i should be keen to guess that you very infrequently answer a question revealed in this communicate board earlier you've theory your answer via. You seem very tactical and accordingly that resources an income. a large number of individuals on the following, spout off with the first aspect that contains ideas because they lack self-discipline and self administration. you do not or a minimum of that is how I hit upon you.

Believe me buddy, most of those people have not even a clue about what they are talking about.

Calling them 'Ignorant' is a compliment, the real ignoramuses might be insulted being compared to those bashing people here.

Just pretend that they do not exist, because actually they don't.

Easy, they can only ask 5 questions per day.

Plus, we get to report them, and in time, they must register a new toon. So, the sad fact is, they only shoot themselves in the foot and they change NO ONES MINDS. In fact, they make us more friends by their hateful attitudes, other people who are straight get sick of us being attacked and write in our favor. Those who don't, I simply ignore, or if they are "quite rude" I report also.

if you ignore ignorance it will not go away...you just wont be bothered by its presence....How ever if you are ignorant then you need to get out in the world and experience all the richness it has to offer with an open mind.
