It takes 21 days to learn a new habit.

So, if you pick up the instrument every day for 21 days and practice for just 15 minutes and don't skip any days, it'll be harder to go back to your old habits than to continue the new one.

If you skip a day, just start again and continue until you have 21 days in a row.

And if you don't feel like picking up the instrument on any given day, consider a couple of different things. 1. It's only 15 minutes. 2. You could give yourself a present afterwards if you do it (a piece of chocolate or an equal amount of time playing a video game or something similar). 3. The long term effect could change your life. 4. You'll notice changes each time you try.

You need to look at the big picture and then break it down into many smaller pictures and goals. Keep your mindset motivated on the small goals, and make sure you do a little bit each and every day to perfect your goal. If you do not get too overwhelmed all at once, then you should be able to tackle the overall larger goal in good time. Best of luck!

Pick up your instrument and practice 10 minutes every day. Find a song you like and learn how to play it on your instrument.

what motivates me into playing my instrument is that i find a song i would like to play, pick a date by which i try and learn it, and then play it for my family.

Fear of death, and testosterone supplements.

I'm serious, believe it or not. My levels of testosterone were abnormally low, even for someone my age. Like it or not, the hormone has as much to do with motivation as religious beliefs. It's definitely working - and it can't be placebo, because I sincerely believe any new prescription drug will never work for me. Hell, they never did before.

As far as the fear of death thing goes.... well, that needs no explaining. Without it, I don't think I'd be around.

Personally..my kids motivate me. Everything that I do and don't do..everything that I do or don't suceed at in life effects them and their lives. If they can see me accomplish or suceed at something, it makes me feel good..and it makes them proud of me. In turn ..it also makes them want to do something good in their own life and start and finish their own tasks, goals, etc. Good luck!
