ibuprofen (which is the active ingredient in Advil, Midol, and Motrin -- but NOT Tylenol) is an anti-inflammatory, which makes it great for the contractions of the uterine & cervical muscles during menstruation. i take 2 generic ibuprofen when the cramps start coming on... works like a charm!! you can buy the stuff at Target or Walmart or whatever, and it's way cheaper than the name brands.

if i wait until the cramps are full-blown, it will take much longer for the medication to work, and may even require a 3rd pill. for cramps, i find it's best to stay ahead of the pain. :)

one more thing -- in case you don't already do this (i don't.. lol), regular exercise is supposed to go a LONG way in reducing the pain of cramps.

Take Midol (because it's legal :) And use a heating pad. If you don't have one and don't feel like going out to get one then do this.. Get 1 sock (preferrably large) and raw rice. Fill the sock with the raw rice until it starts to feel heavy, but make sure you have enough room to tie a knot at the top. Then put it in the microwave for 1 minute, and Waa Laa! A cheap, but effective heating pad. Enjoy!

I take Midol or Aleve a day or two before I plan on getting my period. It's usually the first 2 days of my period that are the worst.

I would suggest talking to your doctor about the pill. It's reduced my cramps and regulated a lot of problems that I experienced during that time of the month.

Well I use pain medication from my doc because I have very bad cramps due to Endometriosis, but I also use a heating pad to help w/ them. It does help. If you don't want to get a script from your doc then maybe you could try midol, or Tylenol, or Motrin.
