I'm also a Wisconsinite (attended UW-Madison - excellent city, and an excellent place to raise a child) and recommend simply going to your county courthouse and asking around. People will direct you to where you need to go. Consider writing something up on your computer ahead of time - a story of your current situation, a list of goals for school and other plans, where you're currently working, and a list of extenuating circumstances (if you have no support from your parents or family, for example) - to take with you as you go hunting around. As a single mom, you should be able to get insurance coverage and possibly food stamps. Be sure to ask someone how to go about collecting child support, especially if you don't trust the father in this.

Where are you planning to attend school? If you have a particular school in mind, e-mail an admissions counselor, make an appointment, and give the school a visit, or request some pamphlets on programs. Many of the public universities and two-year colleges offer daycare while you're attending class. Look up the school's women's center (most every school has one) and they'll help you go from there. And look up the counseling center to see if there are single-parent support groups.

If you've already been on the FAFSA site, be sure to fill one out or e-mail a note to someone at the FAFSA department offering the story of your situation and ask how they recommend you proceed.

I live in west allis. milwaukee county. I went to the milwaukee county department of health services. (I think that is what it is called) They have all the paperwork there, or at planned parenthood they have it there also. (That is where I originally filled it out) Its on 12th and Vliet (if you are in milwaukee county) So stop in a planned parenthood, you have to take a pregnancy test there to confirm pregnancy and they will give you the paperwork for title 19, badgercare, medicaid, whatever you want to call it. And its all fairly simple from there, but do it right away!

Do you really need the assistance of the state, or are you just looking for a handout? From your question it just sounds like you are trying to see what you can get. It is out there for those that really need it. Keep that in mind.
